Spice Market

We visited this spice market to learn about Egyptian seasonings that give Egypt cuisine its zest. Like other markets, it is a sensory adventure combining Egypt’s vibrant colors, intoxicating aromas, and warm hospitality. These markets have a long history in Egypt. Their origins date back centuries. They continue to be an integral part of the local culture and cuisine.

Even though I am known not to have a sense of smell, the aroma was intoxicating! The air is thick with the warm and fragrant smells of cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron, and countless other spices. The pungent scent of garlic and onions mingles with the sweet fragrance of dried fruits like dates and figs.

I bought Aswan’s famous Hibiscus Tea instead since Egyptian food was not exactly one of our favorite cuisines.
