The birthplace of the Olympic games, the playground of the Olympic Gods, the birthplace of the “big three” philosophers most influential to Western history (Socrates, Plato, Aristotle), and the cradle of democracy and Western literature. Why has it taken us so long for this visit?!

We are delighted to travel again with our friends Joe Sokul and Ellen Roney from Madison, WI. We all arrived in Ankara, Turkey, one day before the tour….to prevent potential problems and adjust to the timezone change (Ankara is 7 hrs. ahead of EST.)

Our first night was a delightful walk through lovely tree-lined neighborhoods to the restaurant Masabasi Kebapcisi. It was fun to see such a vibrant and diverse restaurant and café scene along the way….safe, clean streets, pleasant people and orderly traffic.

What we did not know, was that the lavash was also to be used to remove the kabobs from the skewer! A couple sitting near us realized that we did not know the proper technique…and their daughter came to teach us! We had some laughs!!
