June 2022, in Virginia, while on a U.S. Roadtrip, and driving to visit cousin Barbara Juedes and husband in Moneta, VA

Shenandoah National Park is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, just west of Washington, D.C., and stretches 105 miles from its northern entrance at Front Royal to its southern entrance.

Skyline Drive is the scenic roadway that took us through the park. What magnificent views as we rode the mountain crest. This is one of the greatest and most visited recreational mountain roads in the United States….. one of the most scenic drives in all national parks in the USA. 75 scenic overlooks offer stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley to the west or the rolling Piedmont to the east. We took many pictures, but capturing the serenity and beauty of these 200,000 acres seemed impossible.

The second highest peak in Shenandoah National Park is Stony Man, at 4,040 feet. We took the short 1.5-mile Stony Man Mountain trail, taking us up 300+ feet to the summit of Stony Man Mountain.

We stayed at the Skyland Lodge in the center and the park’s highest elevation. This is the view of the setting Sun from our room!

This beautiful park has a lot of history, especially about the CCC and the former summer home of President Hoover. Our short time here left us with many more things to do and see when we return!!
