Our day started with a drive across the Thivan Plain, before climbing the slopes of Mount Parnassus, on our way to the picturesque mountain village of Arachova. Arachova is a village renowned for its stunning mountainous scenery, charming stone houses, narrow cobbled streets, and traditional wooden balconies.

Its strategic location near Delphi, the center of the ancient Greek world, has made it an important settlement throughout various periods. The village played a significant role during the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule in the 1820s. It is particularly famous for the Battle of Arachova in 1826, where Greeks achieved a decisive victory against the Ottoman forces.

Another thing about this village…it is a cool and chic ski town! Who even knew Greece had a winter! Stores all over town were ready with ski apparel for the season.

We stayed in this charming village mainly because of its proximity to Delphi. We window-shopped and stopped for a bite to eat with Joe and Ellen.

Our table gave us a great view of the valley below.

Then it was off to the hotel to wake up early for our next stop in Delphi.
